How to Import a Pinterest Board into Figma: 3 Ways Compared

To import a Pinterest board into Figma, you can pair PinBoardSaver's Chrome extension with its free Figma plugin, download the board as a ZIP and place the files yourself, or capture the board page with html.to.design. The table below compares the setup, layouts and limits of each method.

The three ways at a glance

Method 1: copy the board into the PinBoardSaver Figma plugin

1. Install the PinBoardSaver plugin from Figma Community. If you skip this now, the extension's result screen has a "Get the Figma plugin" link to the same listing.
2. Install the PinBoardSaver Chrome extension.
3. Open your board on Pinterest in Chrome and click the extension icon. The panel shows "All Pins", already ticked, and the board's sections as checkboxes.
4. Click "Start Download" and wait for the "ZIP Ready!" screen.
5. On that screen, click "Copy for Figma". The button answers "Copied to clipboard!". You do not have to save the ZIP first.
6. In Figma, run the PinBoardSaver plugin and press Ctrl+V or Cmd+V. The plugin shows how many pins it detected.
7. Under "Layout Options", pick "Grid", "Masonry", "Single Row" or "Single Column", set "Columns" (1 to 10), "Image Width" and "Spacing", then click "Import to Figma".

Everything lands in one frame named after the board, for example pinboardsaver_kitchen_ideas, centered in your viewport and selected. Each image is a rectangle with an image fill, named after the pin's title when it has one, with the aspect ratio read from the file. "Grid" keeps the pasted order in strict rows; "Masonry" drops each image into the shortest column, the way Pinterest does. Pins outside sections come first, then each section in turn, all in the same frame. For one frame per section, untick "All Pins", tick a single section and repeat steps 4 to 7.

"Copy for Figma" copies the pins from the download you just ran, so the free plan's limit applies here as well: 20 pins per download. "Select Pins Manually" lets you choose which 20, and Premium removes the cap.

A few details worth knowing:

• The plugin asks Pinterest's image server for the original-size file where one exists. Its only network access is to Pinterest's image CDN (pinimg.com).
• A video pin comes through as its cover image, where Pinterest supplies one, not as a video.
• An image that fails to load is skipped instead of stopping the run, and the plugin reports how many pins it imported. Figma's plugin API does not accept images larger than 4096 px on a side, so an unusually large original can be among the skipped ones.
• For a handful of references you do not need the extension: right-click a pin, choose "Copy image address" and paste the links one per line. A link to a pin page is rejected with a message.

Method 2: download the ZIP and place the files

Use this route when the same images are also going to a client folder, a print layout or an archive, or when you want a trail back to every pin. It combines with method 1 in a single download, because "Copy for Figma" and "Download to Device" sit on the same screen.

1. Open the board, click the extension icon and keep "All Pins" ticked, or untick it and tick only the sections you need.
2. Click "Start Download". On the "ZIP Ready!" screen, click "Download to Device".
3. Extract the archive, named <board>_pinterest_board.zip. The root holds 0_info.txt (board name, board URL, owner, date and pin counts per section) and the pins that are not in a section. Each section has its own folder, and numbering restarts inside each one.
4. In Figma, choose "Place image/video" (Shift+Cmd+K on Mac, Shift+Ctrl+K on Windows), select the files, then click to place them one at a time or use "Place all". Dragging files in from the folder works too.

Files are named {number}_{pin name}_{pin ID}, and the ID leads back to the pin at https://www.pinterest.com/pin/<pin ID>/. Neither of the other methods gives you that, so keep the extracted folder next to the Figma file. "Start Download" puts the original file in the ZIP where Pinterest has one; on the free plan, pins picked with "Select Pins Manually" are saved as medium-size copies. Figma scales anything larger than 4096 px on a side down to fit.

Method 3: capture your board page with a web-capture plugin

html.to.design is a general-purpose tool: it turns live web pages into editable Figma layers, and a Pinterest board is one more page to it. The extension downloads an .h2d file, which you drop into the html.to.design plugin in Figma. • The free plan allows up to 10 imports every 30 days, and high-res images are listed among the PRO features. Check its current plans before you depend on either.
• You get the page rather than a list of pins: the arrangement is whatever Pinterest showed in your browser, with no column or spacing settings for the pins themselves.
• Pinterest loads a long board in stages as you scroll, so check that the capture contains the pins you expected.

It is a reasonable choice when you want the page itself as a reference, or when you already use the tool for other sites and need a quick one-off capture.

After the import

Original-size images can be much larger than they appear on the canvas, and a wall of hundreds of them can slow the file for every collaborator. Import the shortlist, not the entire research archive, and keep the raw downloads outside Figma.

Keep sources and rights in view

Moving an image into Figma separates it from its Pinterest description and source. For important references, add the original pin or creator URL in a note beside the image; with method 2 the pin ID in the file name gets you there.
